Subject: Re: '84 saab 900T- vexing turbo problems

T0 EWM: Thanks for your reply and your thoughts. In my original post (which may have not been clear), I referenced installing three new (rebuilt) turbo's. These were procured from the same source(s) that a SAAB authorized dealer would use. Incidentally- SOP is to replace the "cartridge" (essentially all interior parts) after the housing has been confirmed to meet spec's. When the first replacement (from Blue Ribbon Turbo) appeared to be the culprit- I sent it back (marked with ID) to be replaced. When the second turbo from that Vendor appeared to (again) be the culprit- I removed and sent that turbo to a different vendor (TurboCity) and had it torn down and mic'd for spec. TurboCity's inspection revealed nothing extraordinary- but, perhaps sub-standard cartridge components. TurboCity sent us this third unit- Yet we have the same problem and a smoking SAAB. I have previously replaced the turbo charger on this vehicle with nothing like this kind of trouble. Any further thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. jak3
