The mixture is controlled by the lambda sensor (O2 sensor) which will automatically lean and enrich the mixture as needed. Installing a K&N air filter will not alter your mixture. Faults that exist in the exist in the fuel system must be corrected, and not compensated for with mixture adjustments. It is a easy procedure to put the ECU into the fault code readout mode, then faults can be checked. The temp gauge should not be affected by the installation of a air filter element.
