My father has a 9000 2,3 -90 which had the same failure a couple of years ago (at about 15000km). I saved the old DI-unit to be able to check it in case I could find what the trouble was. I haven't had the time to check it yet but my first impression was that the change of wiring (the possibility to replace just the wires) made me think that the trouble was caused by a broken cable. What indicated this was that the car got harder and harder to start until it finally just wouldn't. About the price. Here in Sweden the DI-unit costs about 150 pounds. The reason for this low price is that a TV program in Sweden made some research about the prices on the electronical parts of a car. SAAB got a reprimand for the expensive DI-unit and they lowered the price shortly after.
