The fan thermoswitch tells the fan when to come on based on the coolant temp. I'm not sure what temp the stock switch works at. You could install a cooler thermoswitch and it will come on sooner. It's an easy thing to do. My '92 900TC exhibits the same behaviour as your car. I haven't changed it yet but I want to soon. Strangely I think the switch is available from VW. I don't know the part number or anything but I've heard VW is a source. Duane
