Subject: Re: Check engine light

I had a similar problem with my '89 900S. The check engine light would come on randomly, only at high RPMs, and occasionally the shift up light would flash at a regular pace. The engine cut out sometimes too. The computer check couldn't nail down anything and after about $1000 I finally replaced the right part. It wasn't the fuel filter, or the "crank" sensor or knock sensor. It turned out to be the air mass meter, which is a little box adjacent to the air filter. I got a used one for about $130 and the problem hasn't returned since. The mechanics told me if that didn't work it might be a faulty computer, but luckily the problem is solved. -Chris (Maine, USA)
