Bet your car is a 4 door. Remove the pasteboard cover along the rear of the
trunk. You probably will have to pull the carpet back a little on each side to
remove the light assemblies, they just clip in the lens with two release tabs.
Get them out and unplug them. Especially on the left side, note the second
pin, the one the black wire runs to, it will be burnt. Clean it best you can
with a flat screwdriver or a Ladies fingernail file (wifey calls these emery
boards). Carefully separate the connector into its two halves on the left side
and clean up the pins there. Some electric contact cleaner will work well as
well as leave a bit of a protective coating. carefully bend any damaged pins
back to a tight fit.
Trace on the circuit board from this pin to a point where it comes to a square
piece of metal. I drill a hole here, insert a bolt, washers and nut to hold an
eyelet to which I run a new ground wire for the assembly. A good ground point
is under the floor cover at the center cross member. Another ground is already
there, just loosen the screw and add the new ones. I also splice this new wire
into the old grounds, but this is not really necessary. Check all your bulbs,
they may need replacing if the end s on them are melted down, even if they
still work.
Reassemble and do the same thing for the right side. The left side will be the
worst, as both sides piggyback off its connectors. Problem is solved and you
do not have to buy new light assemblies.
