Euphori420, I bought my '85 900T 16v for $100.00 as a parts car for my '83 900S. The seller said their mechanic told them the engine was blown. I bought it and fixed the problem myself for $5.00 in parts plus a tune-up and oil change (the engine was obviously not blown, duh). I have since driven it cross-country, have 198,000 miles on it, and have done little else to it besides routine maintainance. There are good deals out there, just keep your head about you when making buying decisions. And if you don't feel you can judge the mechanical quality of a vehicle, get your trusted mechanic to look it over for you as everyone else in alt.autos.saab will tell you.
