Subject: climate control

My '89 Saab 9000S has developed the following three ailments within the past two weeks. At least the symptoms have all come to bear now. 1) The climate control seems to have no jurisdiction upon the fan these days. As of 2-27 the damn thing blows on the highest speed irregardless of being told to do otherwise. Other then that the ACC seems to be just fine. 2) The heater core is on the way out. There is an occasional sickly sweet smell and coating on the windshield. That'd be antifreeze right? Any idea what this will cost to fix? Is it so simple that a college student, who erroneously majored in philosophy and religion and is holding a full load this term, could do? 3) The hood has a nice paint chip. My father suggested that it came off in a high pressure car wash. Nice, thought I was doing the thing a service, not hurting it. The poor car spends all day outside and has so for years. Thus there is perhaps a *little* sun damage on it. Okay, the paint needs a buff bad. Would that prevent future paint chips? Thanks for any help you might have, the thing is fun to drive when it works... which is all of it most of the time and most of it all of the time. Cheers, Matthew
