They also changed the hubs in 1988, so if you ever need to replace the wheels (or want 16s for example) you'll have an easier time finding them. Also introduced in 1988 was passive seatbelts (annoying motorized ones) - these were deleted in late '89 or early '90 and replaced with an airbag. You can retrofit manual seatbelts to cars with automatic ones... Lesseee... avoid 1985, and avoid 1987. I think there were also some suspension upgrades in '88. '90 is the best year, because you get ABS and airbag and the last revision of the fuel injection system, among other things.
