I own a '78 99EMS and have had great results with Gates belts. In fact, with about 250k on the clock I'm only on my 3rd belt. If yours is giving you problems with jumping off I'd suggest a serious look at a) pully alignment and condition and b) proper belt tensioning and retensioning about 200 miles after replacement.
