When I test drove a 9-5 with the 5 speed manual, I noticed the same thing! I could not accelerate smoothly. The power delivery felt choppy. I paused between shifts to let the engine speed drop down and when I re-applied the throttle it seemed like the engine paused again and finally the power kicked in suddenly. Car & Driver (May issue) mentioned this also, but only under hard acceleration. To me it was noticeable under normal acceleration and it spoiled what was otherwise a very nice car. I'm now considering an automatic, but I haven't test drove one yet. By the way, how are they selling in Europe? Here in the Boston area, it looks to me that the 9-5 is selling very slowly which is a surprise considering Saab is pricing them at only $30,000 for the very nice base model.
