Subject: Re: Brakes burning on '86 900 after changing pads

Unevenly worned pads - keep on pounding or disassemble the brakes completely check for corrosion and fit it with new sealings. The inner pistons have to be screwed backwards when pads are replaced. The are adjusting themselves as the brakepads gets worn. You need a special tool (easy made) for this, which matches the two holes in the piston. After some rotations press the piston inwards using fx a clawbar - check if the new pads passes.... and so on. Then pull the handbrake 100 times and make the adjustment remembering that the brake wires crosses over. The band of rusted disk have to be grounded down so it won't make madings on the new ones. Remember to check the thicknes of the disks. If less than 0.45 inches they must be replaced. They are inexpensive (maybe not at the authorised SAAB garage) and a good rounding job is expensive. Also check the brake hoses for cracks.
