They are (in my experience) more reliable than the Volvo, and less reliable than the Audi, Mercedes, and Volkswagen. They are safer than anything out there except the Mercedes. They (and Volvos as well) are notoriously expensive to repair, but then again, so are other luxury/performance imports. If you get a Saab, avoid a turbocharged model. Also, if you can drive a stick, get one without automatic transmission. This will let you dodge two big trouble spots (the automatic transmission and turbocharger). Saabs have some electrical problems, yes, but unless you get a lemon, I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you do buy an automatic, I'd recommend getting the transmission fluid and filter changed every 12,500 miles, religiously.
