Daniel, I have an '89 9000 CD Turbo and my mechanic has just remedied the same problem you're having. As Colin said, check the fanS. Most people, and many mechanics, do not realize that there are 2 fans, one in front of the radiator, and one in back. Only one of mine was kicking in when the needle went into the red. My mechanic replaced the Relay Switch, which temporarily solved the problem, but then it needed a new Thermostat, so that was replaced. It still runs hot as all 4-cyl engines do, but in traffic, the needle goes about 3/4 of the way up, and then the 2nd fan comes on and it goes back down to the middle level. Hope this helps, Jim
