Rick and lorie: The need to replace oli is based on it's contamination. the sythetics usually ned less changing because of their overall nature is better (the flow better, have a better visosity, etc) however if the oil is getting contaminated you are distribution it through the entire engine. and will be bad for the engine. i have found that extending the life of any oil involves a better oil filter. in combo with a good oil is a nice combo. I have seen a few ads for the new secondary filter. it SUPERFILTERS the oil. i was a little wary of this until i saw a friend that used it and loved it. his oil was 1 year ans 1/2 old and looked brand new. but i wonder how long even Synthetic ol will last under these conditions. i would think that the oil would breakdown eventually even if it is clean.
