Where shall I begin? My car won't start... it appears to be acting as if I was stealing the car I mean that the anti theft measures seem in operation. could the relay be bad? SYMPTOMS: WITH KEY ON: no lights on instrument panel (battery charging light stays on whether key on or off) no instrument gauge activity no headlights, but have parking lights WITH KEY OFF and IGNITION WIRES DISENGAGED: battery charging light on on instrument panel reverse lights (only in front) on AFTER TAKIJNG ALL THE FUSES OUT OF THE FUSE PANEL and the relays the battery charging light stayed on it was only after a small wire , a field wire , from behind the alternator was unplugged that it went off. SO I s the alternator shot ? When I run a hot from the battery to the ignition coil the guages work with the key on but when I turn it to start it cuts out as if it is in anti theft mode... My car has beeen running fine up untill about a month ago.. I replaced the solenoid on my starter because it had been prevously installed without the heat shield and the termial end of the solenoid cracked from the heat from the manifold. Around this time I noticed that I didn't have my reverse courtesy lights. A few weeks later when stopping to check my coolant level,as my car has been running hot (possible blown head gasket on exhaust side). I got back in and she wouldn't start. I didn't hear any fuel pump engagement so I started with the fuse panel. sure enough there was a blown fuse it was the "stop lamp" fuse replaced it and the car started. the next time this happened the fuse that was blown was the instrument panel fuse replaced that and the car started. The next time there was no blown fuse so I jumped the fuel pump relay . Shortly after that i got in my car and I had nothing no gauges no nothing........ That's where I am at, my battery was dead so I charged it and now when I reconnected it the reverse lights stay on only in the front, and the charging light on the instrument panel is on without the key on..
