This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------D67AA356E2B6CDAE105BB5DB Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Jerome: The V6 engines in the 9000, as well as the 900, are a GM design from their German Opel division and they are produced at Ellesmere Port [sic?] in the U.K. (the new 9-5 uses the same engine design, by the way, with an added turbo charger). It features 4 valves per cylinder and an unusual angel of 54 degrees, max. torque is 227 Nm at 4200 rpm. This engine, designed to appeal to a broader upper class crowd, has never really caught on with traditional Saab devotees -- that's perhaps the reason why you don't find it in the 900 or 9-3 anymore. It is a smooth engine that needs to be revved to deliver -- it is, however, not THAT much of an improvement over the balancer shaft four cylinder engines and it gets coarse and quite noise at high revs. I don't really know about its reliability but if you are looking for the real Saab experience, you'd better go for the turbo. If you are looking for less excitement delivered by a mediocre engine (for a V6, that is), go for the V6. The V6 being a GM engine would, I would assume, indicate a good reliability. Hope this info helps. Armin Jerome Ranch wrote: > My SAAB "dealer" is getting some used cars in, one of which I am > certain to purchase. He said he'll be getting some 9000 6 cyl.
