the 85 gearbox will fit just fine, but it really sounds like you have a motor mount problem. one real common one is to put the spacers on the head side of the support bracket( on the right side of the car near the power steering pump). the spacers should be on the bolt head side of the bracket, not between the head and the bracket.your problem is a rotational one. -and- check the shift gate for shims (extra ones) I have seen people add them to make up the difference. dannopsamorama.com
