Subject: Re: 1986 9000 Turbo

Hi, Have had mine (1986 Turbo 16) for about a year now...got 178,000kms on it, just about 105,000miles Have replaced both engine mounts (...doesn't help to kill the wildlife here), Exhaust (now 3.5" straight through - about another 20hp) Shocks...originals are very expensive Idle pulley and belt.....seems a normal replacement...about $300 AUD Have a slow and intermittent oil leak...looks like the oil filter assembly may be leaking 2 Cruise control indicator stalks in 3 weeks (got a faulty one) Gear linjkage rubber...without, there is no linkage CV boots, both sides...had perished Gear selection getting sloppy...will need a gearbox overhaul soon Disconnected the turbo boost switch...was faulty..is ok to run, just need to watch the boost pressure Got a sloppy stearing rack (RHD), will go soon Needs replacement air conditioner compressor...they do not last too long in our heat. Been a fantastic and very safe car to drive though...I guess that you operating cost should be lower in the US...take the plunge and get a fantastic car. I will gradually fix mine, the NSW SAAB Club suggests that I should get another 200,000kms from it, and that reliability gets better as they get older. (Something to do with replacing mechanicals, I think) You need a good SAAB specialist to service it...cannot afford to have someone not familiar with them ruin it, and change the oil every 5,000 k (use either Mobil 1, or Valvoline, check with your service agents preferance). Good luck.
