Subject: Fault codes

I have an '89 900 and the check engine light occasionally lights up. According to the Haynes manual '88 and later US 900's use this as a fault diag. by shorting to ground the #3 pin on the test socket located on the passenger side wheel well wiring harness and reading the blinking light codes produced. I can't find any unused three pin connector there. There is however an unused 4 pin connector a foot away from the fuse box on the left wheel well. The factory manual for '88, which is the only factory manual I've got, makes no mention at all of fault code diag. via the check engine light. I'd like to know how to get at the fault codes and find out what's going on. Thanks in advance.Any intelligent replies are gratefully received. emorainenopsampc.com
