I have a '85 900T with the original turbo and exhaust system (<- no kidding). My problem is that at temperatures starting at 70-75F boost falls off. At 90F, or greater, the engine is about 20% short on boost. At low temperatures, say below 40F, performance is to spec. This problem is not just an error in the boost gauge. Overall performance is lacking at high temperatures. I am more or less sure that the APC is functioning correctly. In addition I have checked for leaks between the turbo compressor outlet and the head. This leaves me with three obvious options: 1) The exhaust system has a restriction (I.e. muffler or catalyst died). 2) The bearings surfaces in the turbo are bad. 3) The intercooler has a restriction in it. But wait, there is the temperature thing. I just can't see the bearing surfaces being effected by outside temperature (oil temp shouldn't be an issue after the engine is warm). Air density is greater at lower temperature. This tends to point to the exhaust system or the intercooler.
