Indeed, but it doesn't look anywhere near as unique or interesting. In fact, sometimes I have a real hard time picking out the newer models from all the other curvy new cars on the road. That never happened with the older models -- you could spot a Saab from a mile away. Nowadays, it's harder to tell a 900 or 9-3 from any number of cars. (I'm not saying that the older Saabs look better -- I don't think they do -- but the older Saabs were certainly more distinctive.) > The current 900's toned-down Saab looks have been Saab'd up a bit with > the 9-3 facelift - the new 9-5 just promises to us all that the 2001 > 9-3 will be every bit as unique as the old 900 was. The 9-5 is slowly growing on me, but I was very disappointed with its looks. It's *very* conservative and is designed to look just like every other sedan on the road -- complete with flat rear end. Only from the front does the car look different from the rest of the pack. In a crowd of new cars, I'd be hard pressed to pick out the Saab at a glance. As for the 9-3, well I can hardly tell the difference in shape. Apart from the new grille design (which is nicely understated), there's very little obvious difference between it and the 900. Those "1000 changes" must be all internal. > I'm planning to go up to a turbo (from my current 2.3 litre) in 2001. Is something special happening in 2001 with the Saab lineup, or is that just your own purchasing time frame? Speaking of new developments, what do we have coming from Saab? Here's the stuff that seems to be guaranteed: - Estate (Station Wagon for the less pretentious), - Turbo Diesel, - Some higher performance variants, And possibly, - All wheel drive. Anyone have any more info/clues/rumours? I think the expansion of the Saab lineup is critical to Saab's future. They don't have to be as hugely varied as the mass marketers like Toyota, or even as varied as other luxury outfits like Mercedes, but Saab do need to offer a wider range of cars.
