Subject: Left Side Mirror - part #'s??

I've read through the SaabNet archives and noted that others share my disgust that the left side mirror does not adjust outward far enough as to remove the blind spot. This is VERY annoying to me as it is a major safety problem. From what I can gather it sounds as if this was a case of "design oversight" by Europeans unfamiliar with the flat glass requirements here in the U.S. for the driver's side. On my '98 900SE the right side mirror is a fairly "standard" American type mirror with a steady convex surface ("objects appear closer...."). I noted at the dealership that the new 9-3's are fitted with what the trade press calls "clever" split-convex (aspheric or duo-focal) mirrors that reduce/eliminate the blind spot on the right side of the car--after driving an afternoon in traffic I found it useful but not earthshaking...nevermind that the press never makes mention of the completely idiotic mistreatment of the driver's side of the vehicle. Give me two mirrors--a flat one on the left and a convex one on the right--with the ability to properly adjust them and I'd be a happy camper. Is that too much to ask? So the way I see it I may have a couple options: -jury rig the current mirror with some type of wedge to move its base viewing angle outward. -obtain a "standard" European convex mirror for the left hand side from some yet unknown source. -obtain an aspheric or "split" European mirror for the left hand side from some yet unknown source. ....and then undo the whole process at lease-end to return the vehicle to its proper unsafe state. :) Can anyone help with Saab part numbers for the above European-spec left hand convex mirrors? Can a U.S. dealer order the Euro parts?? reference articles: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/press/062798.html http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/archive/files/109/10945.html http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/archive/files/109/10929.html http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/archive/files/41/4139.html http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/archive/files/41/4193.html P.S. - the mirrors on my VR6 Jetta worked fantastic until that day the tree jumped in front of me.... :) http://www.wolbrink.com/images/jetta.jpg -Tim
