If it is the same as a 85 900S (I hope you have a Haynes manual beacuse it explains it well), I will try my best. 1. before jacking up the front of the car get two sockets about 19 to 22 milimeters these will be used to hold the upper A arm up along with the spring. 2. Place these underneath the upper A arm (you might have to jack up each tire by the lower A arm to get some clerance. Ok these will prevent the spring to come down and hinder the opperation because as soon as you jack up the car the spring pressure will bring everything down and it is impossible to work like that. 3. Now that you had done both sides. proceed to jack up either side or both. I am not mentioning any of the safeties because you know what they are and I not responsible for any damages to you or your baby SAAB. Do this at your own risk. 4. Remove the tires and the brake calipers. Close the brake line with something so they wont leak or just hang the calipers from the springs with a coat hanger ( one made out of wire). 5. Now you can remove the tie rod ends but that will cause you to get a front wheel alignment, so don't do that. 6. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the ball joints to the A arms and pull the spindle without removing the drive shaft, (or you can get the nuts of the ball joints off and then move to step 7.) so don't pull too much just enough. You should have a friend hold the spindle for the next step. 7. Get a ball pin hammer a good size one not a tiny one and hit the spindle (hard) right where the ball joint shaft is, that should pop them out of place (this the way to get them out withought damaging them) do the bottom one first and then do the top. This is the way I do it to change the ball joints, if you got more questions just post an email in this newsgroup and I should answer. I do all the work myself , my car hasn't seen a mechanic since I adquired it in 1991. Good luck and yeah it is messy doing these.
