Is this true? I was always told > to cool the engine down for at least 60 secs after driving. I hope I > haven't been wasting my time. > > Thanks in advance. You will never cause any damage nor be wasting your time letting your engine cool off. 60 seconds is probably a little extreme unless you've been doing some heavy driving - 30 seconds is probably adequate. The reason why your dealer told you it isn't necessary is because '87 and later 9000 turbos ('88 and later 900s) have a water jacket which helps cool the turbo down - and keep it cooler than a non- water-cooled turbo. Many people believe that water cooled turbos mean no more 'cool down' period... This may or may not be true... all four of my Saabs have water cooled turbos, and I always let them cool down for about 30 secs. The '88 9000T now has 212,000 miles on the original turbo, so I am not planning on changing my behavior... :) -Justin
