Brookstone carries a german made cup holder that clips onto the dashboard vents - the catalog has it for a rather pricey $18 but beats scalding the equipment - I just got a catalog from them, they're at 1-800-926-7000 and the item number is T204446 - I've never used one and have no idea how it works but I imagine Brookstone would take it back if you didn't like it.
