I know I will appear a complete idiot with this message, but I really, really, need some help with a 'simple' oil change on my Saab 9000. I had to jack to car up, put in jack stands, and head to Sears to get a new 13mm sockect. The oil filter was difficult, but I have a ratchet driven coil that worked. I could only get 3.5 quarts of oil on my first try, but I felt okay about my first try. I figured next time it would take me 15 minutes max. Not. The oil gland bold would do nothig but round itself into a mess. I used a fresh copper washer the last time; and I did not crank the thing to death. So, my questions: 1. I think a 13mm aluminum alloy bolt is a seriously wimpy way of handling the oil sump; 2. I think copper is a mistake as a washer; GM and others are using a neoprene plastic gaskit between aluminum and oil bolt; 3. In there infinite wisdom, why not make an oil change easier? The manufacturers of any model car could revise the old bolt access to something like a valve, that one coiuld turn by hand. 4. I think they should ban the use of power tools in a shop. Try some time to remove the lug nuts from one of your wheels, or the oil drain plug from your car. It really makes you look like a fool when the shop has spun on those bolts at 45 ft/lbs; and you are stuck with some wimpy wrench. Anyone with an idea for a rounded oil gland bolt?
