Subject: Re: K&N filters

I was working with a special project for the Navy called UAV (Unmanned Air Vehicles) in other words Remote Controlled Airplanes, (don't ask me what we did) and we used K&N air filters after the Mogadishu incident since it prevented smaller particles of sand to enter the intake of our 2 stroke engine. Actually these are commonly used on motorcycles for street and racing. I have two installed in my Suzuki Katana 600 and one in my 1985 SAAB 900S. I had seen the small increase in performance. The few things I like is that all I have to do is clean them and oil them, all of mine had paid for themselves I haven't bought an air filter in over 5 years, the price is a bit high but compared to 5 years worth of buying from Pep Boys is better to pay for something that will increase performance and last long. You have to be good to these filters and keep them well oiled since that is how they trap small particles. They do allow more air to enter the intake. I had to get my air fuel mixture adjusted on my motorcycle because of the increased air flow, too much air no enough fuel. That alone for me was proof of their performance increase (130 mph plus on a straigh shot). The SAAB fuel efficiency increased by at least 2 to 4 miles more (by my calculations with everything well tuned). Remember the normal filter that you buy is paper and the K&N is cloth and lasts longer. Well to summarize I have them, all my biker buddys have them, and we love them, so does my SAAB.
