The most likely location of this leak is in the passenger footwell - you'll have to remove all sorts of carpeting to get at it. Under there is a piece of plastic which goes through the firewall and has two vacuum hoses attached to it. Make sure they're both connected. If it's not that, it's either: 1. Another vacuum leak elsewhere (check the vacuum solenoid attached to the vent first) 2. A leak in your vacuum tank (the bottle in the fenderwall on the passenger side) 3. A seized vacuum solenoid The fan speed selector is independant of everything else in the car, so most likely candidate is a damaged fan speed selector. I've never heard of one breaking, but it happens in BMWs all the time. To remove and replace it, you'll need to remove your radio. Disconnect the wiring connector going to the speed selector, pinch the side in, and pull it out (from the front). Note that the whole assembly does NOT come out - just the little knob itself. If you need a replacement, let me know as I parted out an '88 SPG recently and have all the electronics leftover. Good luck...
