Subject: Radio/Antenna Problem

Seeking advice on radio/antenna problem. '89 900S w/ Clarion radio. Original antenna broke, stuck open. Replaced w/ Radio Shack power antenna, worked fine for 4 yrs then radio reception became weaker and weaker. Seems to be a grounding problem. When I run an antenna cable to my other car it works fine. I sanded the area under the antenna mount to expose metal but that only improved it a little. Tried a Radio Shack short rubber antenna, not much better. Currently have a longer whip on the non-powered Radio Shack base. It's okay but the other car has 10x the reception capability. Also have a problem keeping the cassette player going well. The sound would fade to where only one of the four speakers had any sound (2 front/2 rear). Tried Head cleaners/demagnetizers. Sometimes it works great sometimes not. Occassionaly it starts off muted then gains volume over a 10-15 minute period. Is my radio/cassette player on the way out? Any replacement suggestions. Is there a SAAB kit to allow you to install other brands i.e. Kenwood, Pioneer? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. John Gardner
