PS - car > has 96,000 miles - only owned it since December. I am sorry to say but it definitely sounds like your transmission went out. This is the common symptom for a failed auto transmission. I would check around with some other places, though, since $2100 sounds a little pricey for a tranny - unless you're talking about parts and labor... the autobox itself should run between $1500 and $1800 and count on about six hours to install it.
