Subject: Re: Tailgating is Evil

Aside from all the rest, I wish you would tell me what it was about my original post (copied below) that made you so angry. Tell me what I said that is not generally true. You seem to read many more things in this small batch of words than were ever intended. Whether we like it or not, most stereotypes are based in truth. Maybe you live where none of these annoying people do. I can assure you that there is a behavior pattern that does exist. I live in a place where it's in your face every day and nearly impossible to ignore. Now, if you live, say, in the Colorado mountains or Montana or a similar locality you have every good reason to drive an SUV, and, if you drive a SAAB of any sort it's probably because you like SAABs. Around here, I'd estimate that over 50% of SAAB convertibles and an even greater percentage of SUVs are driven by the sort of people who have the behavior patterns I refer to. They're driven by people who have them because they're in fashion and very little else. Who knows what their next automotive enthusiasm will be. Probably the $23 000 (??) VW Beetle nouveau, or maybe enough time has passed that they'll go back to Beemers and Audis. <original post follows> I think you have to realize that SAAB convertibles appeal not only to SAAB enthusiasts but to a whole other set of people who otherwise probably wouldn't touch a SAAB. Many of these are aging, busy-schedule yuppies whose business is always more important than anyone else's on the road. Tailgating--among a slough of other sins--is standard practice for these people, as is talking on the phone WHILE tailgating. The fact that they'll pay almost anything for a fad car contributes to the high price of SAAB convertibles. But we should probably be glad of them because the convertible is probably a high-profit item for them.
