Subject: boost problems 84 T16

I have a problem getting enough boost with my 84 900 T16. The pressure transducer was stuck at 160 ohms causing the solenoid to be constantly actuating. This was very anoying so I drove the car around for 4 months with the solenoid wire disconnected leaving me with base boost only. I have now replaced the pressure transducer but have found that the boost level is only 2/3 into orange. My saab tech put 1 and 1/2 turns on the wastegate and now the boost is upto 3/4. I really can't understand how the wastegate could have moved since prior to the original pressure transducer failure I was getting boost into the red. Another puzziling effect is that the boost is being let off back down to 2/3 and almost 1/2 way as the rev's rise. I have verified this effect to be related only to revs by accelareting flat out in 3,4 and 5 gears from 3000 revs up. The pressure seems to be let off to 2/3 at roughlly 4500 revs. Is this supposed to be a feature of the APC system? I remember reading somewhere that the APC board has 3 trim pots for pressure, tail-off and knock sensitivity. Could these have been acidentally moved since I took the board out to inspect it for any obvious track burn outs? I certainly don't remember seeing any trim pots. Otherwise my car drives superbly, the uptake of boost is smooth not snatchy and the boost gauge reads a constant level under full throttle with just the rev's related tail off effect. Thanks in advance for any replies. -----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/rg_mkgrp.xp Create Your Own Free Member Forum
