Andy, You were going on about this a couple of months ago. No matter how good a manufacturer is, or how sophisticated the process and parts are, unfortunately, as the bumper sticker says, Shit Happens. As long as a human being has their hand in the process somewhere along the line, it can happen. It happens to Volvos, BMWs and Ferrari's. Saab is not going to admit fault at this point in the game. I still think 20,000km (12,000 miles) between oil changes is too long of an interval. You might get buy using Amsoil synthetic oil and a bypass filter, but if you are using regular motor oil, 3.000 to 5,000 miles between changes is long enough. I know the additive packages in the European oils are suppose to be better than here in the US. Well they sure did not help your crankshaft. I had to replace the crankshaft pulley on my 87 9000S two months ago. It seems the design of the pulley on the earlier 9000s is a problem. I have spun a bearing before. It happened on my 1872 Toyota Celica. I had it in storage for a year, while I was in Greenland. I made the fatal mistake of not changing the oil before I stored the car, or changing it the day I picked it up. Three days after I got the car from storage and the day before I was suppose to change the oil and filter, I spun a crankshaft bearing. I had the car fixed and it ran like a champ. Andy, fix it or sell it, but move on. The Space Station will be in full operation and you will still be talking about your crankshaft. Ken Washington 87 9000S
