There probably is no single *best* motor oil for all driving conditions. I prefer synthetics, because I believe they do perform better overall. I use Mobil 1 (5w-30 year around) now, but Castrol, Valvoline are fine. I think high-quality non-synthetics are fine, but may not give as good gas mileage as synthetics. And, more frequent changes are necessary. There are some very good and expensive (maybe $8 quart or so) synthetics out there that I'm sure will do the job. The key is good filter (Mann?), and changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and you're engine should last a long time. I do avoid house-brand motor oils, i.e. those having brand name of the Retail Outlet--it's usually mcuh cheaper than others, but you just don't know where it's been. I see no reason to avoid Quaker State.
