Subject: Warranty period for 96 Saab SE clutch?

Hello All, My clutch failed after climbing a steep mountain pass in stop and go traffic. I had the car towed to my local dealer who says the clutch is only covered for 12,000 miles or one year. One of the reasons I bought this car is because it had a 4 year "bumper-to-bumper" warranty. Apparently the clutch is not between the bumpers. I realized that that the warranty does not cover comsumables, but I thought this covered stuff like oil changes and light bulbs, i.e. the normal stuff that you would expect to have to replace, not major parts of the drive train. The car is three years old and has 40000 miles on it. Does anybody know if this dealer is telling me the truth. What else is not "between the bumpers". I am about to call the Salesmen I bought the car from and give him an earful. BTW, this dealer wants to charge me $700.00 for a new clutch. Andrew
