To do this you require a water cooled inter-cooler since this engine supposedly suffers badly from the inlet charge getting too hot. I would agree with this entirely. In my own experience turning up the boost makes little difference to the top end, you just get a lot more torque around 3000 rev's. At around 4500 rev's the engine runs out of puff and there is little point in revving it to the red line. The heat generation in the intercooler is very noticeable if you do a flat out accelaration and immediatelly try to follow it with another i.e. you get nothing like as good accelaration. My local SAAB garage reckons fitting a modified APC box and the twin pipe back box will lift the 175 bhp upto about 190 bhp. I think this is reasonable. I believe the package from Abbott costs about 800 pound and includes all the things discussed above and fitting. Considering just the cost of the individual parts I would consider this a bargain. 0-60 in under six seconds in a front wheel drive car is a joke!! I drove a Rover 200 turbo coupe that had over 300 bhp and could only just manage it. The car would spin the wheels even in fourth gear and to my mind was undriveable/unusable. My own self tuned 85 900t16 will do 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds and spin the wheels even in third gear on a dry road. The only way to do a much faster 0-60 would be to fit racing slicks or alter the gear ratios so that you don't have to change upto 3rd. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
