Subject: Re: Recommended Oil Filter for '87 9000t

HI Harrie, Thanks for your response. I am just biased against Fram b/c of the experience I had with my last car, a VW Jetta (totalled now). When I bought the car, it had a Fram and the Check Oil light kept coming on. I then changed the oil and put a new Fram on, but the oil light would not go off. Someone on the VW Newsgroup suggested that I use a Mann or Bosch filter. I then switched to a Bosch and used that for three years with the oil light never coming on again. That entire newsgroup recommends nothing but a Mann, and I too agree with that perspective for the Jetta. I do, in fact, expect something extraordinary for my Saab 9000, which is to hit 250k miles. My Jetta oil changes were costing me over $20 each (with me doing all the work) b/c I used only synthetic oil and a Mann filter. I, personally, don't mind spending that money for oil changes on my cars. I also exclusively use premium gasoline in my cars. I am considering, however, with my Saab to switch to a standard oil and an additive. I would still like to stick with a Mann filter, though, as it is what I understand to be the OEM filter for my car (1987 model). I'm sure that using the Fram won't kill my car or anything. I've just got a bias against the filter, I guess.
