Subject: '89 900 5 spd - low throttle miss
I need help with a problem the dealer can't seem to find.
I recently purchased an '89 900 5 spd w/ 49k miles. A great car, but it
suffers from the following problem. Most of the time it runs fine, but
occasionally the engine will miss, not continuously but sporadically as if
this is an electrical or vacuum advance problem. The "Check Engine" lite
does not come on and the engine idles fast (1300 rpm whether the a/c is on
or not). Here's the catch... if I turn the ignition of for a second, the
idle returns to normal and no more skipping...until the next time. Occurs
about every other day, usually during a stop-and-go 26 mile commute.
Missing usually happens just off idle.
The dealer has checked the engine and, as expected, the problem never shows
itself there.
The vehicle had been sitting for a while before I bought it and the dealer
replaced the air volume meter.
Any ideas???
Thanks,
Ron
