That's what I've found SO odd. Motor Trend, Car & Driver, European
Car, and one other magazine I get simply loved the 9-5. The only
slight against it was they wish it had more power - frankly, so do
I. It's what has prevented me from buying one. I think R&T is
one of the lower forms of car magazines and I don't particularly
believe anything they say, 'cause they have a tendency to change
their opinions.
Furthermore, I've driven an A6q 2.8 and a 9-5 LPT 4, both autos,
and the 9-5 is quicker and FAR more pleasant to drive. I do think
the styling is hardly noteworthy, it looks like Volvo meets Honda,
but it's pleasant to look at.
The problem is that the 9-5 is Saab's attempt to change their
image and get people in the showroom, and when a mag slams it
like that, a certain audience stops even considering it.
Oh well...
