My 1990 convertible has two positions that the trunk lock can be left in. One allows the lock to work with the door locks, with the other, it is always locked and requires the key to be used on the trunk to open it. Maybe they did this to allow the top to be left down yet the trunk still locked safely. Seems if you want the back to only be unlocked via the key, you could easily clip the wire to the lock actuator. -klaus
