And definitely not true on the "cruising speeds" part. Even in my automatic trans 9000CD, I can run full boost off the line all the way to max speed, just by shifting manually and keeping the rev's up. Working the "stick" this way, I can take any 3 or 5 series BMW, and I can *almost* keep up with a 740 (even though it's got almost twice the displacement).
