Subject: Re: SAAB-'96-AERO-50K-Should I Buy?

The posts are generally correct. The '96 model year was the last true Aero. Interestingly, the '97 CSE came with the Aero engine in the 5sp. version. Those were rare. In the '95s there were notorious problems with the Trionic systems. It seems that there were a batch that allowed significant over-boost under full throttle. These cars were without doubt the quickest Saabs I had ever driven. Unfortunately, if you stayed on the throttle too long, under certain conditions the fuel pump over-pressure switch would kick in(or out, actually). This would cause the car to decelerate instantly, throwing the driver and passengers forward. It took a while for the service people to figure out what was going on. The cure was to replace the Trionic. This did fix it, but also made the car comparatively slow. I even had a guy complain to me about it! The DI cassettes will fail around 60-70K. Fortunately, these are under warranty for the most part. 94's and older have the 6 year, 80,000 mile major systems coverage. the remaining have 4years or 50,000. If you are looking for an automatic, then I really would suggest that you find a CSE instead. It will save you some money and will perform the same. It will have a smoother ride than the Aero due to softer bushings and of course it has 15" wheels rather than the 16"s that are on the Aero. Good Luck! ooHa! wrote in message <70v5ou$s27$1nopsamana.sprynet.com>... >I am considering buying a good-looking "lease car return".
