Amsoil makes an engine flush specifically designed to change an old engine to [their] synthetic oil. For an engine in good condition with less than 50,000 miles or so, I wouldn't even bother with the flush. You will carry a bit of old oil through the change, but all modern synthetics I know of are fully compatible with regular oil. Just do one more change at the regular interval after switching to synthetic, before you do any extended interval changes. I'd go with the "lightest weight" oil you can use without any oil pressure or leak problems. Start with a fill of 10W-40, and only go to 20W-50 if you need to (or if you're in the desert in the summer). BTW, I've used Amsoil synthetics in all my cars, motorcycles, outboards, and small engines for 20 years. I switched my '82 900T to it when I bought it at 26K, and it's running strong at 152K. --------------------- John R.
