I think the designers' "logic" was that most people do not carry $20,000 - $30,000 of equipment in their vehicle. So why would they spend the extra design time and complexity to create this feature? Maybe they even thought that if it was that big of a deal to somebody, they could change the power source of the trunk switch-- from constant power to ignition controlled. This should not be too hard for you to do-- or you can take it to a shop and have them do it... Just a thought...
