If the brake pads are always touching the rotor (due to rust in my case, or maybe an installation problem in your case), the friction will heat the caliper and vaporize the brake fluid. Result, the brakes go soft. Fees just like a major fluid loss. If the brakes are fine before the car is moved any distance(at this point the brakes are still cold) , that's it. Check that the pads are free to move away from the rotor face.
