the issue is not mileage, but time. the rubber that comprises the boot cover will dry and crack -- you need to keep your eye on them, since the boot is much cheaper than the joint itself. i bought an 86 900 new, and probably replaced five or six cv boots by the time i traded it in with 125K miles in 11/94. the car always received saab authorized service, and they inspected the boots at each interval.
