Subject: Water injection?

I have this idea for cheap charge cooling. What it involves is using a universal window washer kit as a means of cooling the air intake. I have seen one of these kits for 25 pounds (about $40) from a kit car parts specialists. What you get is a small tank with a built in electric pump, several feet of tubing, two jets and a switch. The way I have envisaged using this is to mount the jets on the metal side plate just in front of the inter-cooler. The water will thus be sprayed directly onto the fins of the intercooler rather than into the intercooler itself. This way I don't have to worry about controlling the amount of water sprayed since it is best to keep the intercooler as cool as possible. Even though the water is not in direct contact with the intake air we can still expect a substantial cooling effect due to the fact that the heat capacity of water is many times (orders of magnitude) greater than air. However several things worry me about this approach. 1) Will this "quenching" damage the inter-cooler? 2) Will the steam produced screw with the engine electronics, since the air flow meter is just behind the inter-cooler? I have some pretty good electronic thermoniters available so I will do some tests to try and gauge just what can be expected. I will post the results soon.
