Mark's comments about being ready to catch the fuel, etc. are well taken. I had gas run into my armpit - not pleasant. It is impossible to put the filter on backwards, the inlet and outlet are different sizes. One other thing you may want to look out for is the condition of the screw that holds the fuel filter bracket on. On my 1996 900 S the screw was pretty corroded, I had to grip the threaded end with vise-grip pliers and back the screw out that way.
