Subject: Re: Heater Core

I have a 92 9000S that needed a replacement heater core this past summer after I experienced the same smell in the cabin. In my case, not only did the heater core have a leak, but it dripped on the Airbag (SRS) control module and I needed to have that replaced as well. I was just barely beyond the extended warranty period, but I made the case to Saab USA that having to replace both the core and the control unit for a total of about $1200 was not reasonable given the relative youth of the car. They agreed and covered a significant portion of the cost. It may be worth a try if your 9000 is not too far out of the extended warranty period.
